lazyweb: Standard staple sizes same in the US and EU?

Does anyone out there know if standard (paper) staples are the same size in both the US and Europe? This isn't one of those English/metric things is it?

The best I can do is figure out that DIN 7405 is the German standard for 24/6 staples (Heftklammer), which are 6mm wide. Since 6 mm is just a little less than 1/4", I'm thinking it's the same as the standard American staple.
